The Kerala Government promotes nurses to Grade-II positions in the Department of Health Services (DHS). Developed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the DHS examination for nurses is a national examination.

Nurses who pass the DHS examination will demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and abilities in delivering safe nursing care. Because of this, it is specifically designed for nurses.

Nursing abilities are tested formally through the DHS examination. Internationally, it is conducted using the highest standard of testing methods. The DHS Examination is required for all new nurses. The exam is 100% pass rate and provides 1,000 hours of continuing education credit. This allows you an opportunity to further enhance your knowledge base, operational procedures, professional behaviour and competencies.

The DHS Examination for Nurses is a two-day written test consisting of 200 multiple choice questions designed to assess knowledge, skills, and competence in Care and Nursing Administration. The exam will consist of one hour of lecture time followed by 50 minutes of testing. This examination will provide you with the foundation you need to pursue additional advanced nursing training and work in a field that interests you. This exam is an ideal starting point for nurses interested in pursuing a career in critical care or medical services, or individuals interested in advanced roles such as becoming a nurse practitioner or nurse educator.
